I grew up in a family practice. My dad is a family dentist who retired last year, and so I used to go after school and see all these different families. My dad had introduced me to what would become his friends, and I kind of have that same transgression here in my practice.
For me, it’s powerful to have parents and kids together. Since I do most everything like orthodontics and other procedures, it’s nice to have the kids here because I can check them at a cleaning visit, check their braces, check the Invisalign. So for me, the family aspect is important because it’s something I really enjoy doing.
The families that have little kids, we always say at age two is a good time, but if you have a child bring them in at a visit with you, let us just touch, you know, and get used to them having someone else in their mouth besides their parents. A lot of that is just kind of like a stranger danger thing, and so the younger that happens, the better.
