When someone has missing teeth or say they have a cracked tooth, in restorative dentistry that term is a broad term that can involve crowns, bridges, or a combination of that. What causes people to get to that point is cracking their tooth. It could be from trauma.
It could be from just everyday living, grinding, clenching, not wearing a night guard when you should. Imagine trying to eat and every time you eat on one side of your mouth you can’t chew over there because the tooth is cracked and you keep avoiding it and keep avoiding it. That’s where I come in with restorative dentistry.
Restorative basically means you restore it back to where it was at in original order. Now with dentistry, in particular in same-day crowns, I have a system called CEREC that allows me to make a crown while you’re numb in one visit and you walk out with it. No more coming back with a temporary on that falls off while you’re on vacation.
So you walk in and you walk out with a crown or a bridge. Best way to do it. A healthy smile is important for a lot of reasons and it doesn’t mean just by the looks.
More so if you break it down to the bacteria. Someone that has gum disease that causes problems, that bacteria gets in your bloodstream, there’s a lot of blood vessels in your mouth, travels throughout your body. If you notice when you go for a doctor for surgery they ask you if as your dentist cleared you.
The reason for that is those bacteria are really bad for the heart, for lungs, and other important organs of the body. And so a healthy smile, when we say that, really transcends down to basically getting bacteria out. A healthy smile, besides being a clean smile, functionality of not hurting when you eat, having function, being able to do your normal routines, live your life and be happy.
That’s what a healthy smile is all about in my opinion.
